When the Fur Really Flies - Tips on Washing Clothes

This is my advice for washing fake fur


For Short and Medium length fur, up to 1/2 an inch in length:
  • Make it a medium to large size laundry load. Don't stuff the washer full!
  • Machine Wash Cold
  • When they come out, shake out each article of clothing thoroughly. Make sure the fur isn't wet and matted down, if it is, you haven't shaken it out well enough. Note that a lot of lint typically comes off of these.
  • Put in dryer, no heat, and run for about an hour. It should come out pretty dry.
  • Hang up until completed dry, then fold and store.
For Long fur (even for clothes that only have a little long fur on them):
  • Make it a medium size laundry load. Leave some extra space in the washer.
  • Machine Wash Cold
  • When they come out, shake out each piece several times, thoroughly and hard. Your goal is to get the fur to stand back on end again, and you will need to shake some water out of it to do that. 
  • Also, with your fingers, quickly brush/comb the fur in the direction that it is supposed to go (especially any part that is angled in the wrong direction); you will feel a little water coming off on your fingers as you do this, and it will prevent the fur from looking weird after it dries (like a wrinkle, but in fur).
  • Do not put in the dryer, even without heat it will cause some fur to mat together or turn into shag carpeting.
  • Hang up until completed dry (avoid letting any edge of the fur lay flat and becoming matted together as it dries, then fold and store.
